Space-themed Coding

Space-themed coding lesson with my Year 5 pupils at Lanchester EP today. Used ‘Scratch Jr’ app to design, write and debug programs linked to their current ‘Space’ topic. People often underestimate the power of Scratch Jr app. You can actually do some really good and quite complex coding with it and I use this a lot in Y3/4 before transitioning to the full online version of Scratch. In this rather unprecedented year when pupils have missed a lot of their Year 4 education it was a nice little refresher to get them back into the coding mindset. Scratch Jr is also a great introduction to Scratch for staff. The full-blown version can be quite daunting, but if you have used Scratch Jr first, then it is far easier to transition. Like Scratch, the Scratch Jr app is completely free.
